That Davao City is one of the safest cities in the world has been touted as fact by netizens, publications, and politicans alike. But, where did this information originally come from and how was this conclusion reached? One Facebook user, Sean De Dios, decided to conduct a 15 minute search on the matter and this is what he found:

The whole text reads:
Duterte and everyone else throws around “Davao, Nth safest city in the world” a lot. So while I was waiting for the traffic to die down on this 13th month payday Friday, I decided to conduct a 15 minute research.
Lets find out who declared Davao City as the 6th (or 9th, or 4th??) safest city IN THE WORLD (Jeremy Clarkson voice)!
I figured that Philippine based publications would be biased, #pinoypride and all, so I chose to avoid those. Instead, I looked at the following sites:
telegraph.co.uk
bbc.com
independent.co.uk
economist.com
cnbc.com
businessinsider.com
msn.com
You know which website mentioned Davao? None. Not even in Top 50 lists.
This made me look into the Inquirer article, checking their sources. The ranking of Davao city comes from Numbeo.com which is a user-contributed survey site. USER-CONTRIBUTED. And I checked it– a whopping 452 contributors! To add to that, what country is the Social Media capital of the world? Us, of course! (https://vulcanpost.com/
Now before you get your panties in a bunch, I’m not saying that Davao city isn’t as safe as it claims to be. I’m just saying that if you’re going to claim something as big as NTH IN THE WORLD, you better have the proper sources to back you up.
You connect the dots. And, if anyone has better sources regarding the prestigious title, please let me know because I’d rather hope that it is in fact, well-earned.
P.S.
I’m not discrediting Duterte nor am I discrediting the testimonials from the populace of Davao. Lets just remember that not everything you see on the internet should be taken at face-value. Lets read, dig deep, and vote wisely! #PHVote
What can you say about this?

For me, Davao City is the safest City in the Philippines considering its size and the budget given. i lived 20 years in Metro Manila and lived 20 years in Davao and I worked in veterinary sales for 10 years at least visiting farms covering the whole Philippines, i think I have the first hand experience.
Globally, its nice to hear Davao is the 4th or 9th even coming from Numbeo.com. I’ve seen The White Paper report by the Economist, and we really can not make it because we’re number one in corruption even when Davao City suppassed some of the Cities mentioned who made it in top 50. Try to live in Davao to experience first hand.
wehhhh just go to comparison and you will see because mas makatotohanan ang comaprison index nang website na yan kesa top safest city try mo lang
Numbeo is the world’s largest database of user contributed data about cities and countries worldwide. Numbeo provides current and timely information on world living conditions including cost of living, housing indicators, health care, traffic, crime and pollution. Numbeo was quoted by numerous newspapers, magazines and blogs. Here you can find a partial list: Business Leader, Time, The Economist, BBC, USA Today, Finacial Times, Washington Post, New York Times, Forbes, Washington Time, etc. Yun namang Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report regarding safest cities not including Davao City, focuses on 50 cities selected by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), based on factors such as regional representation and availability of data. Therefore, it should not be considered a comprehensive list of the world’s safest cities (ie, a city coming number 50 in the list does not make it the most perilous place to live in the world).
At last someone with some straight talking common sense, backed up by international sites. People, Davao is a nice city but to completely frank and as a well travelled world citizen I would be amazed if Davao made it into the top 1,000 safest places to live
Tha admin of this page deleted my post. I explained the history of the CPP-NPA and how it started in Northern Luzon. I did not use any cuss words nor did I lashed out at anybody.
