LIST: Most Trending Google Searches Worldwide in 2024

Do you remember what you searched the most this year? Don’t worry, Google has an answer for that!

On December 13, Google posted an over three-minute video on YouTube that encapsulated the year 2024, showcasing breakthrough performances, history-defining events, and trending pop culture moments this year.

“These Breakout Searches truly surprised us all this year. We can’t wait to see what comes next,” it wrote.

Apart from the video recap, Google has also released its annual list of top trending searches for 2024 that people have looked up worldwide. For this year, sports topped Google’s overall searches, bagging the first three spots with Copa América, UEFA European Championship, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024, one of the highly anticipated sports events this year by Filipinos and global fans, also clinched the ninth spot in the “Searches” category. While Olympic medalists like Algerian professional boxer Imane Khelif and American gymnast Simone Biles are some of the most searched athletes this year, the Olympic Chocolate Muffins also dominated the searches!

The Olympic chocolate muffins became a viral food sensation worldwide after Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen constantly talked about the sweet treat on TikTok.

The U.S. election also led the searches worldwide, with President-elect Donald Trump garnering the first spot in the “People” category and the sixth spot in the “Searches” category. Trump’s win over Vice President Kamala Harris makes him the second former president in U.S. history to successfully reclaim the White House after losing a reelection bid while in office.

Meanwhile, former One Direction member Liam Payne made it to the most searched personalities this year, ranking first in the “Passings” category and fifth in the “Searches” category.

For pop culture enthusiasts, Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us topped the song trends, followed by Rosé and Bruno Mars’ smash hit APT. Additionally, the box-office animated film Inside Out 2 and Netflix’s black comedy-drama Baby Reindeer secured the first spot in the “Movies” and “TV Shows” categories, respectively.
