That Davao City is one of the safest cities in the world has been touted as fact by netizens, publications, and politicans alike. But, where did this information originally come from and how was this conclusion reached? One Facebook user, Sean De Dios, decided to conduct a 15 minute search on the matter and this is what he found:

Duterte and everyone else throws around “Davao, Nth safest city in the world” a lot. So while I was waiting for the traffic to die down on this 13th month payday Friday, I decided to conduct a 15 minute research.
Lets find out who declared Davao City as the 6th (or 9th, or 4th??) safest city IN THE WORLD (Jeremy Clarkson voice)!
I figured that Philippine based publications would be biased, #pinoypride and all, so I chose to avoid those. Instead, I looked at the following sites:

You know which website mentioned Davao? None. Not even in Top 50 lists.
This made me look into the Inquirer article, checking their sources. The ranking of Davao city comes from Numbeo.com which is a user-contributed survey site. USER-CONTRIBUTED. And I checked it– a whopping 452 contributors! To add to that, what country is the Social Media capital of the world? Us, of course! (https://vulcanpost.com/
Now before you get your panties in a bunch, I’m not saying that Davao city isn’t as safe as it claims to be. I’m just saying that if you’re going to claim something as big as NTH IN THE WORLD, you better have the proper sources to back you up.
You connect the dots. And, if anyone has better sources regarding the prestigious title, please let me know because I’d rather hope that it is in fact, well-earned.

i never believe that davao is one of the safest city as it says in the news because my neighbors from davao said that all house have gates to safeguard thier house.compared to my city,our houses has no gates everybody are free to pass

Marcos for perceived “inequalities and injustice”. They started as a small group of “insurgents” numbering about 300 fighters, originally in NORTHERN LUZON then spread out to other provinces. They gained a stronghold in Mindanao even before Duterte’s time because of the meager resources allocated there to maintain a sizable police and military. I wasn’t even born when all these came up and so were you. But history was one of my favorite minors in college that’s why I know this. So before you disparage your family’s last name, I suggest you read your history first. And I will say this in Bisaya so you will understand it better. Daghan ko’ng ka ila nga mga Dalman sa Dipolog, Dapitan, Piñan, Sindangan, and the surrounding rural areas of Zamboanga del Norte dong. Ayaw intawn paka ulawi ang imong kaparehas ug apelyido. Si kanhing Vice Governor Dalman ka ila na namo. Ka ila ka niya?
Sino ba ang paniniwalaan mo? Dapat yong mga nakatira mismo doon, di ba? Ano ang mga testimonials nila? Isa pa, may problema ba kayo kung ganon ka peaceful at matiwasay ang Davao? Wala namang mawawala sa inyo kung ganon ang pakiramdam ng mga mamamayan ng Davao, di ba? Survey o hindi, fact talaga yan. I should know.
Davao is our home, has been a safe place for us and our children, and we believe it is a safer place to live than most cities and regions in RP. But it is not because Davao is beautiful that we campaign for Duterte. We will vote for Duterte not because he is the best candidate, but because his rivals smell of corruption, ineptitude, insensitivity to the plight of the masa. In his rivals, we are seeing more of the same traditional politics hounding our coutry.
