For weeks, there has been a nationwide clamor for Nadine Lustre to become the next Darna after Liza Soberano had to drop out of the project for health reasons.
After Liza Soberano said that her finger injury ‘will never function the same way again’ where the injury is the reason she could no longer play the Filipino superhero, Darna, there was a new search for an actress who could fill in the big shoes to play the iconic role.
According to an interview with CNN, even after an actress was already picked for the role, Nadine Lustre still received calls to be the next “Darna” and she was “honored” by them.
However, she confirms she did not audition to play the character.
She shared with CNN Philippines’ The Source: “Honestly I’m just really honored that people like parang they want me to be their Darna kasi I didn’t put any effort [for] the movie, I didn’t audition or anything,” and added: “to be compared or to be likened kay Darna na, you know, independent, powerful, it’s really nice.”
If you recall, there was a time when Nadine was the center of attention for the new casting as Nadine Lustre Willing to Do and Train for ‘Darna’ if Asked and there was a video of her shouting the iconic line: “Darna!” (WATCH: Nadine Lustre Gives a Glimpse of Her in Action as Darna)
The film’s director, Erik Matti, even agreed Lustre could replace Soberano.
Lustre told ABS-CBN News in April that the movie would be “a good opportunity” for whoever is to play the role. “It’s a good project, so who’s not open for it? I mean, if it’s meant for me, sa akin po ibibigay. But like what I’ve said before, I know that the project is going to be given to someone who can give justice to the role. It does not have to be me, as long as mabigyan ng justice. I know naman that everyone is going to pick the right one.”
Despite Nadine not being cast to play the part, it looks like a new actress was also deemed fit for the role, Jane De Leon, ABS-CBN’s Newest Darna!
