Erik Matti, who was set to direct the upcoming ‘Darna’ remake and who had worked on it for five years before resigning due to creative differences, has spoken up about the options for a new actress for the titular role.
Liza Soberano unfortunately had to leave the project because of an injury. Since she will still be needing surgery and extended therapy, it was “deemed best for Liza not to pursue the project as the injury shall hamper her from effectively doing the movie stunts required” as per a statement by ABS-CBN and Star Cinema.

While netizens have been throwing names of their favorite picks here and there, including Angel Locsin, Pia Wurtzbach, and Maja Salvador; Erik Matti says that Nadine Lustre would be the perfect choice for him.
In an interview with Philippine Star, he says that after Liza, “I only see Nadine Lustre so far as someone who can be Darna. Very sultry. She has a lot of female sensuality and at the same time still looks tough and very Filipina. The key to casting Darna has always been someone who can look plain and ordinary in her Narda alter ego but can be tough, spunk and can be very sexy as well when she transforms to Darna. Nadine can look all of that.”
