ICYMI: Here’s Everything You Need to Know About the iPhone Duo

Apple just unveiled its first foldable design, opening up possibilities that feel entirely new yet remarkably familiar. The iPhone Duo was definitely the star of the show at the Apple announcements in Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Being the brand’s first foldable iPhone, many tech lovers want to know what makes the iPhone Duo different in the market today.

As a long-time iPhone user, the iPhone Duo felt like a hybrid between an iPhone and the iPad. Opened, it’s the thinnest iPhone ever at 4.5mm thin compared to the iPhone Air, which is 5.6mm thin. It has a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display when closed, both of which happen to have a 1.40:1 aspect ratio for visual continuity. Closed, the screen of the iPhone Duo is 90% of the new iPhone 18 Pro but with a more compact and pocketable design. The displays also feature ProMotion, Always On, and 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.

Later this year, the iPhone Duo will support the Apple Pencil with USB-C so users can take notes, sketch, or mark up on either of the displays.

One of the major concerns of foldable phone users is the hinge on these devices; the iPhone Duo has a precision hinge that offers smooth operation and better control of the minimal crease on the screen. The premium nano-texture matte finish on the phone reduces glare and reflection while contributing to minimizing crease visibility. The hinge is engineered from more than 100 components to precisely control opening and closing and support the center of the display, delivering a smooth, satisfying feel. Internally, support ribs reinforce the structure for added stiffness, while antenna splits with ceramic fiber inserts enhance the frame’s rigidity.

The iPhone Duo is powered by the new A20 Pro that features an advanced thermal management system with custom vapor chamber and dual-battery architecture for pro performance and longer battery life. It also runs on iOS 27, which is still the familiar OS we are used to, but now more versatile when interacting with the iPhone Duo’s different capabilities.

“iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original. With an entirely new design and intuitive experiences, it shows what’s possible when hardware and software are engineered together and redefines what it means to use a foldable phone,” said John Ternus, Apple’s CEO. “With the largest display ever on iPhone that still fits easily in your pocket, combined with the power of A20 Pro, iPhone Duo helps you stay more immersed and productive wherever you go, whether you’re enjoying content, multitasking across apps, or gaming.”

Touch ID is integrated into the side button and can be used whether the iPhone Duo is open or closed. Users can also unlock their phones using their Apple Watch.

Since foldable designs usually have flaws, Apple made sure that the iPhone Duo is built to last. It is made of grade 5 titanium, Ceramic Shield for the back, and Ceramic Shield 2 for the front, which has 3x better scratch resistance compared to previous generations. iPhone Duo is also splash-, water-, and dust-resistant with an IP68 rating so it can withstand your day-to-day adventures.

The iPhone Duo has the new 48MP Fusion Main camera, allowing users to shoot with zero shutter lag, capture in the default 24MP mode, and use 2x Telephoto. The 48MP Fusion Main camera also works with a computational image pipeline that excels in low light because of its large sensor, fast aperture, and sensor-shift optical image stabilization. There are also upgraded Photographic Styles with new textures and grain controls for creative control over desired appearances and artistic style.

When it comes to entertainment, the iPhone Duo supports 4K120 fps recording in Dolby Vision on the 48MP Fusion Main camera. Users can also capture cinematic videos at 60 fps and use Audio Mix for high-quality audio or music isolation. Time-lapse, on the other hand, supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR.

With the new A20 Pro, the iPhone Duo has a better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. A new chip package inspired by M-series Apple silicon connects A20 Pro directly to a custom vapor chamber, dissipating heat and powering multitasking, gaming, and complex AI workloads. The 6-core CPU is up to 20 percent faster than A19 Pro, delivering the fastest CPU in a smartphone; the 7-core GPU is up to 40 percent faster and more power efficient; and the new Dual 16-core Neural Engine offers 2x the compute power to run on-device AI models. A20 Pro also delivers 50 percent more unified memory bandwidth and is built on the latest 2-nanometer process technology.

As for the battery, the iPhone Duo is powered by one high-energy battery on each side that works seamlessly as one. This way, users can get up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display, up to 44 hours of video playback using the outer display, and up to 24 hours of usage per charge when both displays are equally used. It can also be charged quickly to approximately 50% in just 20 minutes.

The iPhone Duo is eSIM-only, offering better security and seamless connectivity. It supports 500 carriers around the world including Globe and Smart. It also features N1, an Apple-designed wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Apple’s C2 modem system powers AI improvements alongside cellular quality and reliability.

The iPhone Duo is made of 35% recycled content, including 100% recycled cobalt in the battery and 100% recycled titanium in the 3D-printed hinge cover. It is manufactured using 60% renewable energy—like wind and solar—across its supply chain. Its paper packaging is 100% fiber-based and can be recycled.

The iPhone Duo will be available in star white and night sky, and starts at ₱159,990, in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage capacities.
