DJI just launched the new Osmo 360 II!
The new model builds on technology from the company’s past drone cameras, hand gimbals, and action cameras to improve full-angle video recording.
The core of the camera is a new 1-inch square image sensor. This design uses 25% more of the sensor surface compared to standard rectangular sensors, which cuts power use while producing clear images in bright and dark environments. The sensor offers 14.5 stops of dynamic range to balance light and shadow, while built-in noise reduction technology helps improve video recorded at night. For high-speed recording, the camera records video in 8K resolution at 60 frames per second.
The device weighs 183 grams and includes 105 gigabytes of built-in storage. The external lenses feature a scratch-resistant coating and can be replaced directly by the user if damaged. Water resistance allows the camera to submerge down to 10 meters on its own, or down to 50 meters inside a specialized waterproof case. It can also operate in cold environments down to -20°C.
Power comes from an internal battery that runs for up to 100 minutes when recording in 8K resolution at 30 frames per second. The battery reaches an 80% charge in 22 minutes, and users can add an external battery rod to extend recording time by another 180 minutes.
Hands-free options include voice commands and hand gesture controls for starting recordings. A tracking feature called Spotlight Follow keeps selected subjects in the middle of the frame automatically, even as the camera turns.
For photo and video modes, the camera captures 120-megapixel panoramic photos, 16K resolution time-lapse videos, and slow-motion video up to 64 times slower than normal speed. All video recording modes support 10-bit color.
The camera connects to smartphones using a one-tap connection point for fast file transfers through the DJI Mimo app. For audio, it uses four built-in microphones with wind reduction and works wirelessly with several models of external DJI microphones. A magnetic quick-release mount and standard tripod thread allow the camera to attach to various mounting accessories.
