Newport World Resorts, in association with Full House Theater Company (FHTC) and Culturtain Musicat Productions, has announced the return of Alikabok more than 30 years after the original Filipino musical was first staged.

Featuring music by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab and drawing inspiration from Juan Luna’s painting La Bulaqueña, the new production opens in August 2027 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
A reworking of the original 1995 production, Alikabok tells the fictional tale of Visitacion “Bising” Vallejo, a beautiful young heiress from the 1800s inspired by Luna’s La Bulaqueña. She falls in love on the eve of the revolution, and like so many women of the time, joins the Katipunan to fight for her country.

Told through the eyes of her Filipino-American descendant, Asia, Bising’s story unfolds as Asia discovers her ancestor’s letters throughout the ancestral Vallejo home.
Piece by piece, Asia slowly puts together the legacy of her family, home, and country. But time is running out: her mother, Anna, wants to sever their last tie to the Philippines by selling the Vallejo home, leaving Asia in a desperate race to complete Bising’s story before it is lost forever.

The revival is one of FHTC’s major productions for its 2027 theater season. The company is also set to make Manila roar with & Juliet, the Tony Award-nominated musical that gives Shakespeare’s heroine a new story set to some of pop music’s greatest hits.
