Nadine Lustre currently stands as the Filipino’s top bet for the role of Darna, which begs the question: why won’t she just take it?
Apparently, Nadine said she has yet to be asked by Star Cinema to audition to be the face of the iconic superhero. “‘Pag sinabahan po ako, gagawin ko. I’m very open to everything. Hindi pa po [ako sinabihan], but if they ask me, of course I would want to do it. Sino naman pong ayaw maging Darna, ‘di ba?” she said.
(“If they ask me [to audition], I’ll do it. I’m very open to everything. They have yet to [tell me to], but if they ask me, of course I would want to do it. Who would want to refuse the opportunity to be Darna, right?”)
Nadine confessed that she’s very flattered with the public clamor for her to be Darna. “I’m really very honored kasi siyempre si Darna, icon yan ng mga Filipinos (because of course, Darna is a Filipino icon), especially for the women, ‘cause she’s a strong woman,” she said.
“She’s also a symbol of hope, ‘di ba (right), and she’s a protector. So para maihalintulad ng tao ako kay Darna (for people to see me as Darna), it’s amazing,” she added.
Although Nadine has yet to hear from Star Cinema, which is currently holding a talent search for the coveted role, she said she is willing to train and is even “excited” at the thought of doing stunts.
“Malaking responsibilidad po ‘yun, e. Siyempre si Darna ‘yun, Filipino icon. Hindi ka puwedeng magkamali talaga,” she said. (“It’s a big responsibility. Of course, she’s Darna, a Filipino icon. You really can’t mess it up.”)
Still, she admitted that she is keeping her expectations low. “I’m the kind of person who’s not assuming. And alam ko naman po na ibibigay nila ‘yung role sa taong deserving (I know they will give the role to someone who deserves it).”
