Queen of Philippine Cinema Gloria Romero has passed away at the age of 91 on Saturday, January 25th.
Maritess Gutierrez, Gloria Romero’s daughter, announced the sad news on social media. “It is with great sadness [that I] announce the passing of my beloved mother, Gloria Galla Gutierrez, aka Gloria Romero, who peacefully joined our Creator earlier today, January 25, 2025,โ she wrote.
“In this time of loss, our family deeply appreciates the support, prayers, sympathy, all the lovely messages, and heartfelt condolences that we’ve received. She will surely be missed dearly.”
Gloria Romero’s wake will be held at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City. The public is invited to pay their respects on January 27th and 28th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
With a career that spanned over seven decades, Gloria Romero won multiple acting awards. Some of her most memorable roles were in films such as “Tanging Yaman” (2000), “Bahay ni Lola” (2001), “Magnifico” (2003), “Dalagang Ilocana” (1954), and “Rainbow’s Sunset” (2018).
She also graced the small screen with her presence in popular television shows such as “Palibhasa Lalake” (1987-1998), “Familia Zaragoza” (1996-1997), and “Labs Ko Si Babe” (1999-2001).
In April 2024, Gloria Romero received the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award from the Film Development Council of the Philippines. This recognition acknowledged her “for being more than just a movie queen immortalized by landmark Filipino films cutting through decades of our popular culture and history.”
