Mu Sigma Phi Launches 2025 Service Month

For over 90 years, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority of the UP College of Medicine, renowned as the first medical fraternity and sorority in the Philippines and Asia, have set the gold standard as the first, the largest, and the most acclaimed medical fraternity and sorority in the Philippines and in Asia.

Since their founding in 1933 and 1934, these esteemed institutions have been pillars of Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Leadership, and Service, nurturing generations of healthcare leaders and innovators. With more than 3,000 members worldwide, Mu Sigma Phi has established a global presence, producing trailblazers in medicine โ€” from pioneers and scholars to scientists and humanitarians. These organizations have not only left a profound mark on the medical field but have also earned national and university recognition for their impact on society.

SERVICE MAIN PUB WIM

This 2025, Mu Sigma Phi remains steadfast in its mission of service, with initiatives that exemplify the physicianโ€™s duty to protect life. The Fraternity and Sorority will proudly launch the month-long Mu Sigma Phi Service Month celebration from April to May 2025, with a goal of reinforcing the organizationโ€™s persevering dedication to self-denying service, which remains highly relevant in addressing the nationโ€™s most critical social challenges.

Through sustainable and community-focused projects, members โ€” from medical students to alumni โ€” will engage in a series of impactful activities aimed at uplifting communities and supporting the Philippine General Hospital. This yearโ€™s Service Month will serve as a testament to their dedication to shaping a future of compassionate, inclusive healthcare.

ImMUnization Week
ImMUnity is a project that aims to safeguard health through immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases. Through ImMUnity, different communities โ€” including children, teens, women, the elderly, and healthcare professionals โ€” are vaccinated against commonly encountered diseases in the country. In celebration of this yearโ€™s World Immunization Week, ImMUnity will hold a week-long series of activities, including a forum and a vaccination drive.

Lukso ng Dugo
Recognizing the critical shortage of blood units available for transfusion in the PGH Blood Bank, Lukso ng Dugo is a blood drive series that serves as an important avenue for raising awareness of this ever-present demand and as a necessity to address this scarcity. It supplies blood units to both in-patients and out-patients at the country’s largest national hospital.

Medical Mission
Holding true to our pursuit of self-denying service, Mu Sigma Phi holds medical missions to support the right of every Filipino community to quality healthcare through the provision of healthcare services. Last February 2025, a medical mission was held in Cainta, Rizal, where we were able to provide access to free medical consultations and medicines, chest X-rays, and other diagnostic testing.

Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival for Health
The Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival (QEFF) for Health is a nationwide filmmaking competition and caravan that harnesses creativity in filmmaking to promote awareness by showcasing personal narratives on the most pressing health matters, including mental health, substance abuse, and sexual and reproductive health. The project continues today in the form of film caravans that showcase these films to diverse audiences in local and urban communities in order to educate and spark meaningful dialogues on health promotion.

WEALTH Caravan
WEALTH is part of the Health Education And Literacy campaign of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority, standing for Womenโ€™s Empowerment and Literacy through Health Education. It aims to address the health literacy of women of reproductive age about ailments important to their health, such as nutrition, menopause, cervical cancer, and breast cancer. Last May 2024, free breast self-exams, cervical cancer screenings, and vaccines were offered to the residents of Sasmuan, Pampanga.

MUving for ImMUnity (ImMUnity & MUbility)
MUving for ImMUnity is a collaborative effort between MUbility and ImMUnity, continuing Mu Sigma Phiโ€™s pursuit of assisting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to feel empowered and celebrating their strength, resilience, and abilities. For nearly two decades, numerous historic climbs have showcased the indomitable spirit of amputees in conquering new challenges. This Service Month, a new milestone will be set โ€” not on mountain trails, but on track. Through this fun run, we aim to promote wellness and inclusivity, with proceeds going to the procurement and provision of essential vaccinations for the PWD community.
