The UP Association of Visual Communicators (UP AVCOM) will be hosting an activity workshop titled Felt Cute, Sew What?: A Felt Keychain-Making Workshop. This event is part of Makers Con PH 2026, an annual gathering that celebrates creators and makers across the country. Through the workshop, UP AVCOM invites participants to explore how to transform simple felt sheets into adorable, fluffy keychains.
The workshop will be led by artist The Purple Penguin PH, or simply Penguin. Formerly a public health professional, she is now a self-taught artist who is passionate about creating colorful and whimsical artworks using a variety of mediums. Initially working with watercolors, she has since explored other media, such as felt, to express her love for animals, particularly penguins. She showcases her charming, vibrant creations at art markets and conventions throughout the metro.
Felt Cute, Sew What?: A Felt Keychain-Making Workshop will begin with a brief talk by Penguin, who will share her journey as an artist tabling at art markets and selling in art stores, followed by a quick Q&A session. She will then demonstrate the steps and techniques for crafting felt keychains, which participants can follow along with. Attendees will be able to take home their finished felt keychains as well as their used materials. Through this event, UP AVCOM hopes to inspire participants to explore their creativity and spark a passion for handmade crafts.
Over the years, UP AVCOM has organized workshops designed to provide participants with opportunities to explore and enhance their artistic skills. Most recently, UP AVCOM held Piece It Together: A Paper-Cut Illustration Workshop with illustrator Liza Flores in 2025, inviting participants to dive into the colorful world of paper illustration. By introducing these creative skills, participants will have the chance to expand their artistic skill sets and gain exposure to different media.
The workshop will take place on Friday, November 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Parola in the College of Fine Arts of UP Diliman.
Felt Cute, Sew What? is open to the public and free of charge. Interested participants may register online starting October 30, 2026, through UP AVCOM’s Facebook page.
