Somewhere between what we were and what we are becoming, we find each other.
A lattice begins with points, seemingly small and separate, until they begin to connect. From those connections come structure, strength, and something greater than its individual parts.

Two years ago, UPLB Materials Engineering Society (UPLB MatES) began building its own. Since then, countless people, memories, challenges, and victories have slowly shaped it into the community it is today. Now, as UPLB MatES celebrates its second anniversary, Coalesce: Beyond the Primitive Lattice invites us to reflect on how far those first connections have carried us and how much further we can grow together.
Inspired by coalescere, meaning to grow together or to unite, Coalesce brings together different colors of connection through its anniversary activities:
- Bond Over Bites (September 25) – brought members together through dinner, performances, and testimonials from past and present chairpersons, honoring the organization’s journey.
- DES Lobby Ribbon Cutting (October 5) – showcased MatES’s milestones and accomplishments through an exhibit at the DES Lobby, launched through a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
- MatErialize ’26 (October 17) – featured insights into Materials Engineering advancements and career opportunities, inspiring aspiring materials engineers to explore the field’s possibilities.
- Coalesce Open Tambayan (October 23) – fostered connections with the wider CEAT community through conversations, shared snacks, and meaningful moments.
- ENSC 13 Review Session (November 3) – will provide course takers with an opportunity to review Chapter 3 in preparation for Long Exam 3, extending the celebration’s spirit of collaboration into the classroom.
Together, these moments form something bigger than a calendar of events. They become the colors, connections, and little pieces of memory that make up Coalesce – a celebration in colors.
