LOOK: This Website Pays Tribute to Filipinos Who Have Died of COVID-19

As the country continues to battle with the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, more and more Filipinos lose their lives day by day. Unfortunately, loved ones of these fallen heroes and innocents are deprived of the chance to grieve and be comforted by the people closest to them.

This inspired two Pinoys to launch a website to honor those who’ve passed from COVID-19 so that everyone, even those who may not know these people personally, can mourn for and remember them during this crisis.

The website, called “A Tribute To,” is an online obituary featuring heartwarming and moving stories written by relatives and friends about their lost loved ones.

“It’s already disheartening to lose a loved one to the virus, and must be many times more frustrating to mourn for them without the comfort of people closest to you,” said Meryl Ligunas, one of the creators of the website. “The virtual space was created so that we can mourn for and celebrate their lives meaningfully, together.”

“We wanted to show solidarity to our fellow Filipinos, even in the simplest way we can. Since we are not able to do much from afar, we hope that how we chose to use digital tools can help memorialize those we’ve lost,” she continued.

Her co-founder, Stel De Vera, added: “Seeing that people are paying tribute to the deceased in their own pages, we thought it would be a good idea to house many of it under one site where even people who do not know them can celebrate their lives and honor their memory.”
