Grand Castella’s Fluffy, Jiggly Sponge Cakes are Back for Deliveries

One can never have too much cake— at least, that’s what I think. To start with, there are rich chocolate cakes, strawberry shortcakes or even decadent cheesecakes to choose from, just to name a few. If you’re the type who wants something trendy, though, here’s something for you: a Castella cake.

Castella is a Taiwanese take on the Japanese classic— albeit lighter, airier and fluffier than the usual moist sponge cake. Although it’s a seemingly simple cake made with just eggs, milk, and flour, a lot of technique actually goes into making a good Taiwanese Castella. I mean, really, how do you make it so jiggly and light as air?

Taiwanese brand Grand Castella does it well. Established in 2010, Grand Castella has since expanded to over 78 branches globally, including the Philippines.

Back for Deliveries

While it remained close during the first few weeks of the quarantine, Grand Castella is making a return appearance because they noticed that groceries are quickly running out of stock. They want to help provide bread— in this case their Castella, donate to frontliners, and help their staff members make ends meet. They’re only available for deliveries, though, since they want to encourage everyone to stay at home to flatten the COVID-19 curve.

Although Grand Castella can deliver to selected areas (which you can find here), their cakes will all be coming from their Eastwood branch. Delivery schedule are as follows: Makati, BGC, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Marikina, Quezon City, and Manila branches can deliver everyday; their Taguig and Paranaque branches can only deliver on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Their Pasay branch is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The cut-off for orders will be at 4PM; any orders after that will be scheduled for the following day. The delivery fee will also vary depending on location. To place your order, you may contact them on Facebook or Instagram.
