For young Filipinos balancing academics and financial survival, search queries serve as an immediate business advisor. Lowell Rubino, a content creator and computer science student from the Technological University of the Philippines who also works as a microentrepreneur, explained how he used the search engine to get ahead in his content creation, schoolwork, and business.

“I was looking for ways to earn money to fund my studies and buy a laptop because it’s a requirement for my course. I decided to document that journey,” Rubino shares. “So I searched for how to document, how to find inspiration. And with that, it helped me to overcome those obstacles when it comes to resources.”

Today, he uses Google Search to have the knowledge and information he needs to balance his dual life: technical coding queries for his university projects on one hand, and market prices of ingredients for his side business on the other.

Meanwhile, personal finance creator Kate Reig explained how her childhood savings habits evolved into a modern digital mission.

“My mom really influenced me. When I was eight, she gave my siblings and me envelopes around the house. From our allowance, we’d put five-peso coins in there,” says Reig, who shows her audience how to be more financially responsible.

At the end of each month, her mother invested those savings into the stock market. Reig now translates these complex financial concepts for her peers. To ensure her content is accurate and backed by evidence, she relies on Google Search to monitor stock price changes and global market shifts before publishing.

“I make sure that the content that I am putting out is really credible and reliable, and I think a lot of that just really goes back to research. [Search] shows me the companies that are currently happening, like what’s currently happening with the companies, and if there are any changes that might affect their stock price.”

Breaking away from traditional career expectations can be daunting, but several panelists explained how straightforward search queries helped them transition into creative industries.

Book creator, culture critic, and writer Andrea Panaligan took a health-related field in college, initially planning to enter the medical field before she realized her true calling was writing. Lacking formal industry connections, she started with a simple search.

“Step one is always a Google Search,” Panaligan explained. “I literally searched: What are some Gen Z online magazines? Then, How do I submit to this magazine? It always starts with that first query.”

Today, she continues to use Search to manage her independent life, looking up everything from writing opportunities to rental apartments in the city and simple recipes.

Film, TV, and theater creator Kyla Polintan graduated from business school and needed to search how to write movie reviews—now, she talks to movie stars in her content | Photo: Google Philippines

Similarly, business school graduate Kyla Polintan used search queries to transition into full-time film and theater content creation. She started making short, humorous online skits but wanted to write more authoritative reviews after being challenged to give her thoughts on a movie.

“I didn’t know how to write a movie review,” Polintan shared. “But someone commented on my video asking for my thoughts on a film, and I thought, ‘Okay, I have the time, I like the movie, let’s do this.'”

She searched How to review a movie, using that initial guide to build her career. Today, Polintan uses Google Search to quickly find theatrical release calendars before conducting high-profile celebrity interviews.

“It helps me like when prepping for interviews, or when I’m talking about behind-the-scenes things… I use Google to just find what I need,” she adds.

Education and inspirational creator Michiko Bernas, who will be starting college in the coming academic year, uses Google Search to learn more about learning. | Photo: Google Philippines

For student leader and academic content creator Michiko Bernas, Google Search was a tool to overcome academic anxiety. Bernas shared that her online journey began in Grade 9 when she felt academically left behind. She searched for ways to study more effectively and discovered different learning methodologies.

“I started looking up the different types of intelligence using Google Search,” she said. “I wanted to see how I could accommodate other people because not everyone learns the same way. They could be an audio learner, they could be kinesthetic, they could be linguistic… I shared it with other people through my content.”

Bernas now shares these customized study techniques—such as the Feynman method and “blurting” active recall—to help other students find study habits that fit their unique learning styles. And as she continues to help fellow students like her through her video content, she also uses Google Search to make sure that everything she’s cascading is also legitimate and substantial.

“Now we’re in the modern society with a lot of misinformation, I use Google to really validate and fact-check what I’m sharing, especially to younger audiences. You can cross-reference if it’s actually the real thing,” she adds.

Career advice creator Matthew Rotea pitched a social media content series about the workplace and ended up being assigned to do it, so now he uses Google Search to make sure his tips are accurate and useful. | Photo: Google Philippines

Fellow creator Matthew Rotea, who educates his audience in a similar manner about how to navigate their career and the workplace, also makes sure that his information is accurate with Google Search.

“So one thing interesting I searched for was about Gen Z career trends. So I discovered that Gen Zs these days, they’re not into the whole traditional corporate ladder thing—they like hopping from one job or industry to another to learn more, to hone their skills,” said Rotea, who got into content creation after being assigned to do it by his boss when he pitched it for work.

Now, “I use it to improve my resume and help me prepare for interviews—and in the process of learning about how to make a good resume, how to answer certain questions in interviews, I turned that into content to help fellow Gen Zs,” he added.

Breaking Barriers in Sports and Education

Figure skating and motorsport creator Kat Lacanilao made it halfway across the world simply by searching how to volunteer in the 2026 Winter Olympics. | Photo: Google Philippines

For Kat Lacanilao, search queries acted as an on-ice assistant coach. Kat took up competitive figure skating at age 17, an age when most skaters are finishing their careers. Despite starting late, she searched for alternative ways to experience the Winter Olympics and discovered a volunteer application.

“I was the only Filipino—and the only Filipino figure skater—who got to be a volunteer on the ice at the Winter Olympics in Italy,” Lacanilao shared, noting that the journey happened all because she dared to search and put her best foot forward.

Of course, on the ice, she continues to use Google Search to self-correct her skating, as a complement to professional coaching:

“When I’m practicing on my own and having trouble with a jump, I search: Why am I popping this jump? What am I doing wrong? It helps me correct my form even when my coach isn’t there,” she adds.

A Shared Journey of Curiosity

The personal stories shared by these young creators demonstrate that Google Search is ultimately a practical companion for daily navigation, learning, and self-improvement.

Passions, interests, hobbies, and even potential careers are possibly waiting behind your next Google Search. As Panaligan gamely said, all it takes is that first step—that first question typed on the Search bar.
