This Little Old Lady Could Break You In Half

For most of us, retirement is a chance to relax and kick back; maybe catch up on some reading. Not so for Willie Murphy. This 77-year-old grandmother started competitive powerlifting four years ago, putting youngsters half her age to shame. “I wanted to become better, to have a little edge in life. So I started the weight training,” she said with a twinkle in her eye. Murphy, who weighs in at only a 105 lbs, is able to deadlift 215 lbs in competition. 

This sinewy septuagenarian says she is able to shovel her own snow, push her car when it gets stuck and lift up her grandchildren in her arms. But the best part for her? “I don’t need any help while I’m carrying my groceries.”
