Discord is accessible again across major telecommunications providers in the Philippines after the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) officially lifted the platform’s ban on September 24, 2026.

During a joint press conference, DICT and CICC officials confirmed that Discord representatives met virtually with regulators and agreed to implement immediate protective measures. These commitments include closer coordination with local law enforcement, enhanced frameworks against youth radicalization and nihilistic violent extremism (NVE), and the implementation of a “green lane” mechanism to address threats involving Filipino youth.
“Inaalis na natin ang ban na ipinatupad ng ating pamahalaan simula kahapon sa online platform na Discord,” said DICT Secretary Henry Aguda during the announcement. “Nakipag-ugnay po ang Discord sa atin sa DICT at CICC at nangakong magsasagawa sila immediately po ng mga hakbang upang higit na mapalakas ang proteksyon ng mga kabataan.”

CICC Executive Director Renato Paraiso confirmed that orders to unblock access were transmitted to telecommunications providers, with service restoration underway across affected networks.
On September 23, 2026, users and connectivity tests reported that Discord was inaccessible through Globe Telecom, GOMO, and TNT connections, while DITO Telecommunity users also reported difficulties accessing the platform. Meanwhile, subscribers using Smart Communications and Converge ICT generally maintained access throughout the disruption.
The temporary access restrictions followed a strict 24-hour directive issued by the CICC in letters dated September 21, 2026. The agency directed Discord and Reddit to immediately designate a resident agent or local representative in the Philippines to facilitate coordination with authorities. The platforms were also asked to submit written explanations of their existing safety arrangements, rapid-response mechanisms, and age-verification measures.

“We are not asking platforms to police the internet for the government but to be reachable, accountable, and responsive when activities on their platforms put Filipino children and communities at risk. When an online threat spills over into the real world, there has to be a clear channel for authorities to act,” Paraiso stated in an earlier press statement.
Agency statements cautioned that failure to comply within the prescribed window could prompt the CICC, in coordination with appropriate authorities, to restrict platform operations nationwide.
Regulatory pressure escalated following a tragic school shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato on September 18, 2026, which left three people dead, including the 16-year-old gunman. Authorities subsequently launched investigations into an online community reportedly joined by the minor to determine whether it had any connection to the shooting.

Officials clarified that Discord was not held legally responsible for the incident, nor was there conclusive evidence that the online community directly influenced the shooting. South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. called for authorities to investigate the community thoroughly, emphasizing that conclusions should not be drawn before the facts are fully established.
While Discord is widely recognized as a major hub for gaming, the restriction raised major concerns among professionals, students, and remote workers. Former DICT Undersecretary Jeffrey Ian Dy publicly warned of potential economic fallout, estimating that around 15,000 Filipino freelancers and virtual assistants rely on Discord communities—including Barangay VA Helpdesk, Nexus, and Jobcord—to manage client operations.

The CICC previously clarified that while Reddit was granted an extension after communicating within the initial 24-hour window, Discord was initially restricted after only sending a formal letter. The ban was reconsidered after Discord leadership engaged in direct discussions with regulators to establish formal commitments.
