When riding a taxi in Metro Manila, it is important to be vigilant and take utmost care. Although there are many good stories of riding a taxi like a taxi driver returning a cellphone he found on his cab and another driver returning a bag full of valuables, there have been quite a number of incident of holdup and scam when riding a taxi in the city, like the taxi holdup story that made rounds online, taxi driver robbing a foreignerthe use of knockout gas in cabs, another use of sleeping gas incident in the taxi, rude taxi driver screaming at passengerairport taxi scam, and taxi plate number switch scam.

With the rampant unfortunate incidents when riding a taxi in the metro, the Philippine National Police (PNP) shared on its social network a helpful list of “Do’s and Don’ts while in a Taxi”.

PNP Dos and Donts Taxi

1.  Let your family and friends know the information about the taxi that you are hiring/riding.

2. Always make it a point to text or call friends and family members about the name and plate number of the taxi you are riding.

3. If something seems wrong, get off the taxi.

4. Stick to your routes. Be wary of so-called shortcuts.

5. Avoid sleeping inside the taxi.

6. Do not give away too much information about yourself.
