Three-piece American band LANY behind chart-topping songs “ILYSB” and “Malibu Nights” just congratulated Filipino athlete Hidilyn Diaz for her momentous win in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics that garnered the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic Gold medal.
On their Instagram stories, vocalist Paul Klein, keyboardist Charles Leslie Priest, and drummer Jake Goss posted a photo of Diaz with their own messages of awe and support.
“Congrats to @hidilyndiaz and the Philippines (who have been so unbelievable to my band) on [your] first ever gold medal,” Klein wrote.
“Congrats @hidilyndiaz. Philippinesโ [first] GOLD,” Priest added.
Goss, meanwhile, emphasized how the champion weightlifter made history. “Mahal kita sobra (I love you so much), Philippines!” he gushed.
Diaz took home the gold in the women’s 55kg division in Weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She previously took the silver medal in the women’s 53kg division at the Rio 2016 Olympics, making her just the second Filipino athlete to win multiple Olympic medals.
