Motorists can now Report Illegally Parked Cars Using MMDA’s “Netizens’ Watch” System

Almost 90% of the population use mobile phones and have access to the Internet. With that, the government is finally utilizing the statistics and its benefits by revealing another initiative that will help alleviate traffic in Metro Manila.

Last December 2015, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority or MMDA introduced an online help desk called the “Netizens’ Watch.”

As the name implies, the said social media reporting system encourages all Netizens to participate by reporting all traffic obstructions such as illegally parked cars, road repairs, illegal street vendors, or anything that impedes the flow of traffic in Metro Manila.

But wait, there’s more! The Netizens’ Watch system can also accept photos and reports of the following:

  • gambling tables
  • illegal basketball courts
  • complaints about traffic enforcers who ask for fine or multa

Here’s how you can report to the Netizens’ Watch system, according to MMDA:

Viber and Tweet MMDA the following details:

  • picture of the illegally parked vehicle / road obstruction / road works
  • time and location of the picture taken
  • tag the official MMDA Twitter account (@MMDA) and use the hashtag #NetizensWatch
  • Send all details to MMDA’s Viber account: 0906-1476-975

Once received, the MMDA team will verify all information and forward it to Traffic Discipline Office or TDO. As soon as everything has been verified and actioned, the MMDA task force will send updates of your report.

MMDA Netizens watch

From my experience, MMDA responds right away when asking about traffic situations. Hopefully, this is more effective than their previous illegal parking campaigns.

What can you say about this initiative? Have you tried using Netizens’ Watch System? If yes, how did it go? Share your experiences below.
