Maricar Reyes, who’s been married to Richard Poon since 2013, has not been able to bear a child with him for the past nine years. Instead of being stressed by the fact, however, she claims she’s at “peace” with it and understands that it doesn’t make her feel any “less of a person.”
“After two years nung kinasal kami (since we got marrief) — we really planned on not having kids for the first two years — after that pwede na (we can do it already),” Maricar told actress-vlogger Rica Peralejo on the latter’s YouTube video that was posted on Sunday, September 11. “We even got checked. There’s no problem with him and there’s no problem with me. Feeling ko (My feeling is) we did our due diligence naman (truly) on our side, humanly possible, pero wala eh (but nothing came out of it). What are you gonna do?”
Rica then asked her if she has ever envied other women who have children or are able to bear children, Maricar said she never felt that way.
“Meron lang talaga kong peace na kung meron, okay. Kung wala, okay. (I just have the peace in knowing that if we had a child, then okay. If not, then okay.) It doesn’t make me feel like I’m less of a person or I’m less of a female,” she shared. “Kung wala, wala eh. Ginawa mo naman ‘yung part mo eh (If you can’t, then you can’t. You did your part) and I rest on that.”
“Not to discredit women who don’t have the peace… kaya lagi akong may disclaimer na parang ‘di galing sa akin ‘to eh. (That’s why I always have a disclaimer that I did not choose this.) Some things, God makes easy for you and some things, God makes a little more challenging,” she added.
