LOOK: These Shoes are Made From Real Cherry Blossoms

It seems that sneaker designs are becoming wilder and wilder as years pass by. We’ve seen basketball shoes made out of denim, we’ve laid eyes on Kanye’s elf-like shoes, and the list goes on. If you’re still in the mood for unique shoe inventions, then you’re in luck.

A famous sneaker brand has collaborated with Japanese textile maker Toyoshima to release a lineup of kicks that are made from Sakura petals. Yes, you read that right. It’s made with REAL cherry blossom petals.

Before you worry about all the trees, it is important to note that no Sakura tree was chopped in the process of making the shoes. It is natural for the petals of the trees to fall naturally during cherry blossom season and the textile manufacturer makes use of the ones that have already fallen from the branches.

In fact, buying a pair of the cherry blossom-themed shoes will help increase the cherry blossom trees in Japan. For every pair that gets sold, they will donate a portion of the profit will be donated to projects that are committed to planting cherry blossom trees in areas that were destroyed during the tsunami in 2011.

Aside from the high-top sakura pair, the lineup also consists of two other colorways. These are the Blue Mallow, which is sky blue in color and is named after the herbal tea that was used to dye the canvas, and Drop Coffee, which is brown and was dyed using real grounded coffee.

All three pairs will cost ¥9,000 ($83) each and will release in August 2019. Unfortunately, these can only be bought in Japan.
