John Bonifacio, a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW), made history when he was crowned Mister Cosmopolitan on September 12, 2026.

Bonifacio’s victory marked the Philippines’ first crown in the pageant, established in 2023. He bested 19 other candidates from around the world—including delegates from South Africa, Thailand, Türkiye, and Spain—to take home the title.
During the preliminary competition, the 27-year-old pageant king was considered a front-runner after bagging multiple awards, including Best Physique and Best Catwalk.

For the national costume category, Bonifacio paid “tribute to the hands that feed [the] nation”—the Filipino farmer. His costume featured two baskets of palay, two carabao heads on the sides, and a bahay kubo structure on the back.
“In the Philippines, agriculture is the lifeblood of communities and a source of livelihood for many Filipino families. Despite the challenges Filipino farmers face, they continue to work the land with strength and dedication. Today, we honor them,” Mister Pilipinas Worldwide wrote on Facebook. “The carabao symbolizes the strength, hard work, and dedication of our farmers, while the ‘bahay kubo’ represents bayanihan, or the spirit of unity and helping one another.”

Like the diligent Filipino farmers who feed the country, Bonifacio also worked hard to support his family before entering pageantry. In 2018, at just 18 years old, the Macabebe native utilized his culinary arts degree to work as a cook in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“Bago ako mapunta sa industriya na ito, nagtrabaho muna ako sa Dubai in 2018 for almost five years. Ginawa ko ‘yun para makatulong sa pamilya ko at para na rin sa sarili ko,” Bonifacio shared during his introduction video and campaign launch as a delegate for Mister Pilipinas Worldwide 2026.

During the question-and-answer portion, he was asked what having a noble heart meant to him and how he demonstrates it through his actions. The Kapampangan heartthrob answered:
“For me, a gentleman with a noble heart is not defined by how he dresses or looks, but rather [by] how he treats people with respect. This is something that I learned from my father, who just passed away. He taught me that regardless of who they are—rich, poor, or whatever gender they choose—respect must always come first.”

Bonifacio first rose to prominence in the local pageant scene when his introduction video for Mister Pampanga 2024 went viral online.
