In line with the theme of her latest movie, Liza Soberano shares her experience, seemingly receiving a “message from beyond” from the late actor AJ Perez.

Liza Soberano is the latest guest on the One Down YouTube Channel series “LaSING,” hosted by Tessa Albea. During the show, she talked about starring in the horror-comedy film and her unspoken connection with AJ Perez and his family. Apparently, the Lisa Frankenstein actress passed by AJ Perez’s accident and received a message from his Twitter (now X) account after his unfortunate death.
AJ Perez was also apparently the reason why Liza Soberano started a Twitter (X) account. “I was a huge fan of AJ Perez ’cause I have watched him in this one teleserye called ‘Sabel’, and it was very unfortunate that he passed away,” she began. “And that was the reason why I created my Twitter because I wanted to have some sort of memory of him, so I followed him.”
“It was strange because I started receiving messages from him after he had passed away,” she went on. “At first, I was scared of, like, checking it because I was like, ‘what’s going on?'” When she finally opened the chat, she discovered that it wasn’t as spooky as it appeared to be. “Eventually, I came to it…”
“It was messages from his family, but it was always very scary when I would receive notifications from AJ Perez,” Liza Soberano told Tessa Albea, who then revealed she’s a cousin of AJ Perez. “But, yeah, I became friends with his younger brother, Gelo, and his family. Eventually, I was introduced to them.”
Tessa Albea then shared a video message from Gelo Perez, expressing how he and his family continue to support Liza Soberano in her showbiz career. Liza Soberano, in turn, expressed gratitude to AJ Perez’s brother and mentioned her wish that she could have had the chance to work with the late actor.
She also went on to share with AJ Perez’s cousin, “The day he passed away, I was on my way–’cause I lived in Pangasinan at that time–and I actually passed by his accident,” Liza Soberano recalled. “And that was the day that I auditioned for the first time ever to be like an artista.”
“It was crazy,” she continued. “And I didn’t know it was him. There’s an ABS-CBN van, and it was, like, smashed.”
“I get to my VTR, and then my road manager at the time, he was like, ‘namatay si AJ Perez.’ I was like, ‘No! He can’t be dead, it’s not real!’ And then I started crying and I was like, ‘I wanna go to his wake.’ And then my family was like, ‘he doesn’t know you,” Liza Soberano said.
Tessa Albea confirmed whether Liza Soberano did or did not go to AJ Perez’s wake. To which, Liza Soberano replied while giggling, “No because I wasn’t invited and obviously nobody knew me. I just, like, inserted myself into their family.”
“Now, you’re part of the family,” the LaSING host claimed. “I know, and I get greetings every year,” Liza Soberano happily shared.
Lisa Frankenstein is Liza Soberano’s first Hollywood film where she plays the role of Taffy, the cheerleader stepsister of Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton).
