X (Formerly Twitter) To Charge All Users Soon, Elon Musk Suggests

Is X going to charge its users soon?

Elon Musk indicated that X, formerly Twitter, will soon be charging all of its users a monthly fee to access the social media app.

“We’re moving to having a small monthly payment for the use of the system,” Musk reportedly said in a recent AI discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

This comes in line with his efforts to minimize bots on the platform. The X owner explained that bots cost “a fraction of a penny” to set up, so raising the cost of an account to “a few dollars or something” could help put off software operators. “Plus, every time a bot creator wanted to make another bot, they would need another new payment method,” Musk added.

Currently, X Premium is the only subscription service it offers. With monthly and annual rates that range from PHP 440 to PHP 6,300, its features include a verified account badge (blue checkmark), editable posts, a higher character limit, and more.

It was only in July when the SpaceX and Tesla CEO renamed Twitter to X. Prior to this, he limited the number of tweets that users can read in a day in the same month.
