The owner of the social media platform made the initial announcement on the same day, saying that the amount of Tweets users can read in a day will be limited. According to his first post, verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts per day, while unverified accounts are to 600 posts per day. New unverified accounts, however, can only view up to 300 posts per day.

This comes in a bid to address “extreme levels of data scraping” and “system manipulation,” Musk explained. Although the abovementioned were only “temporary limits,” the #TwitterDown hashtag reportedly trended in some parts of the world due to the trouble it apparently caused users.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s Tweet of restricting Tweets also went viral and managed to break a view count record despite the restrictions. He posted on the thread, “In yet another exercise in irony, this post achieved a record view count!”

The cap has since been raised to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 posts per day for unverified users, and 500 posts per day for new unverified users.

“The reason I set a ‘View Limit’ is because we are all Twitter addicts and need to go outside,” Musk added in another Tweet. “I’m doing a good deed for the world here. Also, that’s another view you just used,” he quipped.

In another Tweet, the business magnate turned poetic and wrote: “you awake from a deep trance,/step away from the phone/to see your friends & family.”

Elon Musk acquired the social media company Twitter, Inc. back in October 2022. Last month, he appointed former NBC Universal executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s new CEO.

Currently, Forbes reports that Elon Musk is the richest man in the world.
