A few months ago, the internet went crazy with speculation over Heart Evangelista shooting a project in China. Most of us were convinced she was there for the Crazy Rich Asians sequel. However, she quickly laid those rumors to rest by tweeting sometime in January that she was actually there for another movie — one that would have to be kept under wraps for the meantime.

In a recent interview with Cinema One, Heart finally revealed what kept her busy for so long in China. True to her word, it wasn’t the CRA sequel or even the live-action Mulan movie as several people guessed. It is actually an international action film. Heart couldn’t yet share the title of the movie or even hint at what it could be about, but she did say that it would be released by the end of the year. However, there is no guarantee that it will screen in the Philippines.

She also shared that she had to adopt a rigorous workout schedule to stay in shape for the action film. Heart elaborated that she would wake up at 4:15 am or 4:30 am daily just to get in the exercise she needed. According to her, a film like this really asked more from her as an actress but it “felt good” to be part of something like it.
Reflecting on what may be a surprising career move to some, she expounds on the decision to pursue this project: “Medyo nagulat rin ako sa sarili ko [Even I was surprised by myself], but again you only live once. Try new things from time to time.”
