Competing in a lighter weight class compared to her Tokyo 2020 stint, Ando lifted a total of 230kg, surpassing her previous record of 228kg. She achieved this by matching her personal best in snatch (110kg) and then clearing 130kg in clean and jerk.
While the Cebuana fell short of the podium, her performance was commendable in a field dominated by Olympic champions. China’s Luo Shifang, the reigning world champion, swept all gold medals with a total of 341kg. Canada’s Maude Charron and Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Hsing-Chun, both Tokyo gold medalists, secured silver and bronze, respectively.
Andoโs impressive showing positions her as a strong contender for future competitions, including the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
