World Gin Day is usually all about clinking glasses, vibrant parties, and enjoying your favorite gin-tonic or creative cocktails. But this year, Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI)—the powerhouse behind the world’s largest-selling gin—is doing things a little differently. They are celebrating the global occasion by shining a massive spotlight on a decade-long partnership that has silently been transforming lives, opening doors, and changing the landscape of Philippine hospitality.

Meet the GSM Bar Academy, a powerhouse collaboration between GSMI and TESDA that has turned dreams into reality for hundreds of job-ready Filipinos since 2014.
What started over ten years ago as a humble scholarship and livelihood initiative has evolved into one of the country’s most impactful public-private partnerships in technical-vocational education.
To kick off the month-long World Gin Day festivities, the GSM Bar Academy opened its doors to members of the media and digital creators. Guests got an exclusive, hands-on look at the academy’s massive impact and even got a taste of its new micro-credential bartending course—a short, industry-focused program designed to teach the absolute basics of cocktail mixing.

The program’s incredible work hasn’t gone unnoticed, either. The GSMI-TESDA partnership has scooped up a stellar lineup of local and international accolades, including:
-
The Kabalikat Award: TESDA’s highest recognition for outstanding private sector partners.
-
The International CSR Excellence Award: Awarded all the way in London.
-
The Green World Awards: Held in Brazil.
The journey began in 2014 during the milestone 180th anniversary of Ginebra San Miguel. Back then, scholars from various regions were given training in bartending, flairtending, and entrepreneurship, and graduates were even gifted mobile bars to jumpstart their own businesses.
Fast forward to today, and the commitment has grown into a premier, state-of-the-art showcase for tech-voc excellence. The GSM Bar Academy is fully equipped with:
-
A professional bar laboratory
-
A fully stocked bar featuring GSMI products
-
A dedicated flairtending gym
-
High-end hospitality training facilities
But it’s not just about the shiny equipment; it’s about the confidence built within these walls. Under TESDA’s National Certificate II (NC II) Bartending Program, scholars undergo nearly three months of intensive training. They dive deep into customer service, beverage preparation, workplace professionalism, and responsible alcohol service.
Today, these graduates are highly sought after in luxury hotels, cruise ships, trendy bars, and resorts both locally and globally. The academy has become so prestigious that it has drawn visits from government officials, global ambassadors, and even President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Event host Paolo Abrera (rightmost) learns how the GSM Bar Academy has secured employment for graduates like JP Peñaflor (center), changing their lives in the process. With them is TESDA’s Shella Bawar, who is a TVET trainer, ASEAN National Master Trainer, and National Lead Assessor.
The Academy also actively promotes GSMI’s “Gin Responsibly” campaign, drilling into future bartenders that great service isn’t just about mixing a killer drink—it’s about keeping guests safe and creating memorable experiences.
Did you know that GSMI actually introduced the very first World Gin Day festivities to the Asia-Pacific region back in 2014? Since then, the celebration has exploded from a single-day event into a month-long extravaganza.
“These initiatives have helped elevate gin appreciation beyond traditional consumption, highlighting its versatility, craftsmanship, and role in creating memorable moments among family and friends,” shares GSMI Marketing Manager Ron Molina.

This year, GSMI is leveling up the party with “Ginuman X”—a brand-new event format centered entirely around fun, connection, and extraordinary experiences.
“X stands for eXperience, eXtraordinary, and eXciting,” says Group Product Manager Paolo Jose Tupaz. “Ginuman X features new performers, more interactive activities, and a program designed to give everyone a memorable experience.”
Best of all? Part of the proceeds from the Ginuman X events will directly support the community programs of the San Miguel Foundation. Talk about drinking for a cause!
The party is hitting multiple spots across the Philippines, so make sure to mark your calendars:
-
June 24: RSA Sports Complex in Balayan, Batangas
-
June 26: Talisay City, Cebu (Visayas Leg)
-
June 27: Robinsons Antipolo Parking Lot & Pueblo de Oro in Cagayan de Oro (Simultaneous celebrations!)

Let’s raise a glass to the world’s favorite gin, and more importantly, to the incredible Pinoy bartenders making us proud worldwide! Cheers!
