Filmmaker Donald Petrie to Direct Rom-Com in the Philippines

Renowned filmmaker Donald Petrie will be directing a new romantic comedy set in the Philippines.

In a report published by Variety on January 14, The Last Resort, written by Karen McCullah, follows the story of a hotel executive sent to the Philippines. There, she falls in love with the countryโ€™s breathtaking scenery and the warmth and kindness of the people around her.

Eventually, the female protagonist will meet a charming expatriate charter pilot named Ben and their love story will unfold right after.

Petrie has directed several classic films, such as Richie Rich (1994), Miss Congeniality (2000), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), Just My Luck (2006), and Little Italy (2018).

Ernesto โ€œBongโ€ Sta. Maria Jr. and Raja Collins will serve as the film’s producers, while Simon Heo, Akstay Mehta, and Rick Dugdale will be co-producing. Meanwhile, Manuel โ€œMannyโ€ V. Pangilinan will be the film’s executive producer.

According to Variety, the casting process has yet to be finalized while production will begin early this year. Sheila Jaffe Casting will act as the film’s casting director.
