The word “retirement” probably hasn’t crossed your mind, thinking of it as a thing that will happen in the distant future. Even if you’re in your early 20s, 30s, 40s, or 50s, there’s actually no wrong time to plan for the future (and retirement plans should be part of this).

After all your hard work for the past couple of years, this is the time to reward yourself and to fully enjoy what life has to offer.

With over 7000 islands in our country, there will always be a perfect place for you to retire in the Philippines. Whether you like to bathe in the sun, hike in the forest, or just enjoy the weather, it has something to offer to you! Here are some of the amazing spots in the country where you can retire happily in the future.

10. Zambales

Zambales is a stunning province found in the northern part of the Philippines. In terms of its land area, it ranks as the second-largest province in Central Luzon next only to Nueva Ecija. Although the province is relatively large, about 60% of its area are actually mountains (perfect for the adventurers out there)! Zambales is also known for its sweet crave-worthy mangoes. This isn’t surprising since the two most important industries here are tourism and agriculture.

9. Antipolo

There’s definitely more to Antipolo than being a hub for retreat houses and resorts for team building. The “Pilgrimage Capital of the Philippines” is a peaceful place perfect for relaxation and recreation.

The patron saint for safe travels or Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage can also be found here. Since it is higher in elevation compared to Metro Manila, the temperature here is also somewhat lower and will give you a breathtaking view of the city—especially at night with the twinkling lights!

8. Siargao Island

Do I even have to say more? Siargao is a bucket list destination for all of us and would be a dream come true to retire in this breathtaking island. Also known for being the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines,” Siargao has one of the best beaches and waves in the world! If you need more convincing (which I doubt), the cost of living here is very reasonable. Truly a paradise that is within your budget!

7. Davao

Davao is highly urbanized and holds the title as the largest city in the country. It’s also well-known for being the “Durian Capital of the Philippines.” Davao likewise houses Mount Apo, considered to be the tallest mountain in the Philippines. The most utilized languages here are Cebuano and English.

6. Baguio

The “City of Pines” is widely known to have a cool climate and is also known as “Summer Capital of the Philippines.”  The name Baguio came from an Ibaloi word “bagiw” which means moss. Baguio is called and known for a lot of things, but did you know that it also ranked as the 6th safest city in the ASEAN region? This place is definitely a spot you should consider to be your forever home!

5. Siquijor

Siquijor is known as an island filled with mysticism and wonder. Although it is considerably a small province, it will not disappoint the people who dare to go to the island. Siquijor has a lot of beautiful nature tourist spots such as the Cambugahay Falls and the old Balete tree which are both located in Lazi. If you’re also a fan of diving or someone who wants to learn the sport, Siquijor has a lot of local diving coaches to help you further appreciate the beauty of the place.

Palawan is a beautiful sanctuary with coves, beaches, forests and mountain ranges. It’s also considered to be one of the best places not just in the Philippines, but in the world. In addition, Palawan has some endemic species like the Palawan bearded pig, Palawan birdwing, Palawan peacock-pheasant, and the Philippine pangolin. It will truly be amazing to live in a wonderland such as this!

Bacolod is widely known as a friendly city and also dubbed as the “City of Smiles.” In recent years, it has become one of the places with the fastest growing economy with regards to IT and BPO. 2. Iloilo

If you have a fascination with colonial architecture, then Iloilo may be your calling. This place is full of remnants of the Spanish occupation in the country that is noticeable with its architecture. This can also be observed in some of the city’s churches namely the Church of Miag-ao, Molo Church, Cabatuan Church, San Jose Church, and Passi Church.

1. Batanes

Batanes is a land of extremes. It is the northmost province of the Philippines. Likewise, Batanes is also the smallest with regards to land area and population.

Its land area is 219 km² and has a population of 79 inhabitants per square km² (Manila= 638.55 km² and 41,515 inhabitants per km2). What’s also amazing about this place is that half of the land area of Batanes is composed of hills and mountains!

The island of Batanes is mostly inhabited by Ivatans. They practice high respect for the elderly, nature, and animals, making this neighborhood highly egalitarian. They are also farmers and fishermen. Living here will give you the luxury of eating only fresh food every day!
