Spooky season may be months away but drag queen Pura Luka Vega is bringing it a little bit closer. On August 7, 2021, she’s holding the virtual drag show Drag Me to Hell and it looks super promising.
On social media, she teases, “Summoning the devil herself with a bone-chilling human sacrifice for your viewing pleasure.”
This type of performance is expected of Luka, who has always gone beyond what’s conventional. While other drag artists make themselves look as feminine as possible, Luka does the same while rocking a beard.
She told us before, when we featured some of our favorite drag queens: “Luka embodies that feeling when you don’t quite fit in and you know it, and that’s okay. Yung proud ka sa sarili mo even if social norms don’t quite agree with you. I was told to shave kasi if I wanted to become a drag queen. And I thought, if drag was like, whatever, “rules” are suspended, why shave? So I thought to myself “katawan ko to. I can do whatever I want.” Drag is being out of the box. Luka can be whoever they are. Ewan ko ba. Nalilito rin ako sa kanya pero it doesn’t matter. Mahal ko naman siya.”

Luka says that Drag Me to Hell will be like a TED Talk with a bit of the occult mixed in. She promises that it will be an interactive show, though we hope that doesn’t mean she’ll be picking one of us as the offering for the live midnight sacrifice.
She jokes, “I might even summon a demon while I’m at it.”
