Almost everyone considers ‘Run With Me’, the annual running event of Resorts World Manila (RWM), to be a celebrity run. Well, this is because celebrities lead the race. However, it is really a charity race because the proceeds will be given to various charity organizations. So far, they have raised 10 million pesos since they started with 3.5 million pesos raised last year alone).
This year is not just extra special for this race. It’ll be “xtra thrilling” and “xtra fulfilling” because it is Resorts World Manila’s 10th year anniversary, as well. Run With Me X will be led by at least 23 celebrities, and more are expected to show up during the race itself on August 25 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

According to RWM, Run With Me X will also be the “most inclusive run” with runners from the LGBTQ community, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Paralympians, and foreign participants taking part. A whole team is even coming all the way from Guam!
There will be five celebrity-led teams and five charity beneficiaries, as well. Television host Korina Sanchez is one of the latest additions to Run With Me celebrity leaders. During the press conference, she said that the run would be good preparation for her ultimate dream: “Pangarap namin ng asawa ko (former Senator Mar Roxas) is to do the 42km New York Marathon one day because we saw that in that race, even 80-year-olds make it to the finish line”. She advises everyone to get fit; running happens to be a good way to do that.

Of course, as Korina cited, running for a cause is even better. She shares that her brother died of leukemia at 19 years old, so she is glad that Run With Me supports leukemia patients and other beneficiaries. “I have also seen so much poverty among the disabled and of course, among children, who I help. So this is one way to validate your existence and to have purpose in life,” she adds.
Korina will lead the Red Team in running for the benefit of Right Start Community along with Gian Magdangal, OJ Mariano and Myke Salomon. The Orange Team will be led by Rovilson Fernandez, Ronnie Liang, Ray Gibson and Meg Imperial for the EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation. The Blue Team will be led by Yael Yuzon (to be represented by singer Ebe Dancel during the race), Jana Victoria, Will Devaughn and Jay Kent for the benefit of the ERDA Tech Foundation. The Green Team will be led by couple Chuckie and Yen Dreyfus with Polo Ravales and Paulyn Quiza for Tahanang Walang Hagdanan. The Yellow Team consisting of Jeffrey Hidalgo, Norman Pascual, and Neil Perez will run for the HERO Foundation.

From a fun run informally organized by a group of RWM employees as an after-work bonding activity, the event has evolved into so much more and has helped so many people in the process. Thus, it is a fitting part of RWM’s 10th year celebration.
Run With Me X lives up to its catchphrase this year. It is really “xtra thrilling” as you get to run with your favorite celebrities and “xtra fulfilling” as you get to help people in need, as well. It will truly be a great way to spend a Sunday (August 25) with your running buddy!
