When in Manila recently reached two million likes on Facebook! This was a humbling milestone for the When in Manila Team. As we met together to brainstorm on how to improve, we thought it would be best to reach out to our readers on a more personal level. After all, When in Manila is a essentially a community. We’re not merely content producers who dish out new articles daily–we want to establish a sense of community and constant exchange of ideas with our readers. To make this possible, we’re happy to launch a new series: When in Manila’s #MeetTheTeam!
Meet Sky Gavin, When in Manila’s Chief Operating Officer! She is a celebrity stylist, so she shares some fashion tips on the site. But most of all, she’s an island girl traveling the Philippines.
What do you do for WIM?
Oversee site operations, community and client relations.
How did you find out about WIM?
Through friends and Intimate Manila where I was a stylist.
What’s the best part of working for WIM?
Meeting new people. I am a people person, so I love meeting different people with different personalities. I also love how When In Manila became a space where I can share my latest finds and adventures.
What was your most memorable experience working for WIM?
Traveling. Though these travels are for work, I always fall in love with places. I get to see the beauty of the Philippines and I developed the perspective of sharing all these to people.
What were the challenges along the way?
I think there are times that I can’t find the right words to say. Sometimes I run out of words or I can find the exact word to describe something.
Describe what the normal day working with WIM is like.
It’s all fun and games especially with the Admin team. We chika a lot so I always check our Facebook group. Then I check and reply to all the e-mails. Then I assign features to our ever growing community 🙂 I also go out for events and meeting with clients who are also really nice to work with.
What are the things that you enjoy writing about/featuring the most?
Travel. These places gives me a whole new perspective about life and meeting locals makes me realize how blessed I am to meet these people and get a chance to help them make a living.
Fill in the blanks: I wish WIM readers would know_____________
…that we are not just writers but one big family.
Future dreams for WIM:
For people to visit wheninmanila.com for anything and everything they want to see.
Future dreams for yourself as a blogger/admin for WIM:
I never thought I will be contented in a job because I went through so much. But for now, I am okay with where I am and I wish to help the others for them to fulfill their WIM dreams.
Most Successful WIM Story
I think the most successful story I can share is an article I did for Sundowners. After the feature, they were fully booked for the next year and even got an award as Most Googled Local Destination.
