Over the years, statisticians have significantly shaped societal balance as they continue to uncover key national issues through data. Despite these notable contributions, the profession remains relatively niche across sectors, operating without widespread recognition. This April, the University of the Philippines School of Statistics (UPSS) reaffirms its commitment to supporting and strengthening statistics students’ career aspirations through its annual UP Career Assistance Program – Statistics (UP CAPSTAT).

The event serves as a collaboration avenue for acclaimed companies and approximately 300 UPSS students, featuring a variety of activities, each with a different framework. Highlights include the two-day Career Talk, Resume-Building Workshop, Mock Interview Workshop, three-day Career Fair, and Mixer.
A noteworthy component of this month-long program is the Career Talk from April 8 to April 10, 2026, offering opportunities through talks by renowned experts from a series of statistics-related fields. It provides a platform for sharing insights about different professional paths and raising awareness of the diverse prospects awaiting students. The Resume-Building Workshop on April 15, 2026 reinforces this with a two-part program: a lecture on the essential components of a professional resume, followed by a one-on-one consultation to review participants’ own resumes. Meanwhile, the Mock Interview Workshop on April 17, 2026 facilitates realistic job interview scenarios and simulations to enhance attendees’ hands-on experience in communication and connection.
From April 21 to 23, 2026, a Career Fair will be conducted to enable students to explore their options and passions in statistics-related professions. This includes discovering potential employers, understanding the principles they promote, and learning about the opportunities they can provide. UP CAPSTAT then culminates with the Mixer on April 24, 2026—a networking get-together of UPSS students and graduates designed to cultivate constructive career conversations, accompanied by food and refreshments.
Together, the UP School of Statistics honors these initiatives as a step-by-step platform for students to build their skills, realize their potential, and expand their connections for a fruitful future career in statistics. UP CAPSTAT is scheduled to start in the first week and conclude in the last week of April 2026. Further details regarding the event can be found on their Facebook page (facebook.com/upcapstat).
