Prince Harry and girlfriend Meghan Markle are engaged!
The official announcement was made by the prince’s father, Prince Charles. It was posted on The Royal Family’s Facebook page and Twitter account. It reads:
“His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle are engaged to be married.
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle.
The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.
The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.”
The engagement ring, which was designed by Prince Harry himself, is yellow gold. One of its stones is from Botswana (where the couple met) and the two other stones are from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection.

Prince Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Kate Middleton) have expressed their well wishes for the newly engaged couple on their official Twitter account. It reads: “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”
Prince Harry’s grandparents, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have likewise expressed their greetings. According to the post, they “are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.”
Even world leaders such as US President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have also sent their engagement greetings.

Prince Harry is the fifth in line to the throne, after his father, brother, nephew (Prince George) and niece (Princess Charlotte). Meghan is an American actress who currently stars in the TV series, Suits, which she is set to leave soon.
