U.S. President Donald Trump has recently declared that moving forward, the U.S. government will only be recognizing two genders: male and female, further pointing out that “sexes are not changeable, and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality”. He also added that the U.S. government will no longer be calling genders “genders” but “sexes” instead.

This order reverses the efforts of former President Joe Biden’s administration to broaden gender identity. This means that all official documents, including U.S. passports, visas, and Global Entry cards will need to reflect one of these two sexes moving forward.
Since 2022, American citizens could choose “X” as a gender marker on their passports in the movement to promote the equality of all people. The Social Security Administration was also looking into supporting an “X” gender marker after allowing Americans to change their gender identification without medical certification.
This will no longer be happening, and grants will also be reviewed to ensure that “federal funds won’t be used in promoting gender ideology”.
