As I worked through two of the lighter noodles, it was time for the Bun Bo Hue (spicy combination noodle soup, PHP230.00). And unlike the two, this is much heavier and spicier. With 3 kinds of meat broth and with 14 herbs and spices combined with a generous amount of cooked New Zealand beef slices, prawn, squid, beef balls, fish balls, and garden fresh herbs, this is a spicy and filling dish that will appeal to many.
And then there’s also the Chao Tom (prawn sugar cane, PHP210.00). It’s sugarcane in prawns served as a wrap with slices of apples, cucumber, carrots, and basil. Another filling and refreshing dish.
Of course, a meal is not complete without a dessert, and the order for the day was the Chè ba màu (special mixed beans, PHP100.00). Basically something akin to our local halo-halo, except they use beans and coconut milk. It is tasty, refreshing, and also affordable, so don’t forget to try it during your visit.
There are plenty of refreshments to choose from when you visit Tra Vinh, and I do recommend the Vietnamese Iced Coffee (PHP90.00). There’s also the Tra Vinh Vietnamese Brew Iced Tea. Get the 1 liter one for only PHP60.00 since the single serving is at PHP45.00!
But what you must really try is the Soda Chanh Đường (soda water with lemon juice, PHP60.00). You think you’ve had the best lemonade ever? Think again! Insider tip, you can ask for additional syrup for the soda chanh dường for added sweetness.
So, when in Manila, no matter how bad the traffic is, this place would still be worth the visit. In fact, I am personally planning for a Tra Vinh get-together to be a monthly thing with my friends and family. There is talk about expanding Tra Vinh by the end of the year, and with food this good and this fresh, I really wouldn’t be surprised.
