These underrated stores bring a taste of Japan right in your home

Most of us miss eating Japanese food. With the current health crisis, we are all stuck at home so eating out isn’t really an option. If you’re like me and you want to enjoy some tasty and filling Japanese food at home, it isn’t really impossible, thanks to these restaurants.

If your stomach is rumbling for some ramen or sushi, but you don’t wanna risk it by going out, here are some underrated restos that you should give a try.

Check them out below.

6. SurpRice Hot Meals (@surpricehotmeals)

Surprise Ramen started, well yeah, as a surprise, of course. At the start, the store was just offering silog meals in Tondo. However, in order to thrive, the store had to evolve. Karla Katrina Lim thought of dishes to add to their menu with consideration of the budget of their target market. With this, they started adding other Asian cuisines.

They started by adding katsudon on their menu. Later on, the budget-friendly ramen came in.

“As you may know, ramen can be expensive, but we want to make it affordable for everybody,” Lim told When In Manila. “FYI, we don’t make it. We searched the market and tasted all the ramen kits in the market until we stumbled upon our current supplier.”

5. Fat Ninja (@fatninjaph)

Fat Ninja came to life in 2015. The brand is a brainchild of business partners Vincent Rocha, Stephen Tan, and Jan Tan. At the start, they were all about the gyoza. They opened stores inside malls and business was good until the COVID-19 pandemic hit hard. Now, they switched from having stores in malls to selling frozen items online.

Some of the products you can get from their website are the Easy Fry Katsu and the Minute Steak. They also offer Fat Ninja Tonkatsu Sauce, Ra Yu Chili Oil, and SB Golden Curry.

4. Quisina PH (@quisina.ph)

Quisina PH helps make mealtimes quick and easy without having to compromise on the quality that your family deserves. They have a wide range of food options but if you’re missing a taste of Japan, give their Beef Gyudon a try. It is aromatic beef in light premium sweet Japanese soy sauce easily prepared for breakfast lunch or dinner with the family.

Now, if you want to try something else, Quisina PH also offers other easy-to-cook food items such as Italian Sausage Pops, Chicken Teriyaki, Buttermilk Chicken Nuggets, and Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy.

3. Misuta Gyoza (@misutagyoza)

Located in Pasig City, Misuta Gyoza is a kiosk-turned-delivery service that offers frozen gyoza for easy cooking at home. This shop prides itself on offering pork dumplings that have no extenders— just pure ingredients. The filling is made up of pork, cabbage, and aromatic spring onions— all encased in soft skin.

Each bag comes with 30 pcs of Japanese dumplings, priced at PHP 280 instead of the usual PHP 320. I say, not bad at all.
