The MMFF Is Extended!

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) announced that it is extending its cinema run until January 14, 2024.

According to the Metro Manila Development Authority, which organizes the annual festival, they “have received numerous calls and requests on social media to extend the exhibition of the MMFF 2023 films, which is supposed to end [on January 7, 2024].”

It also shared that the 2023 run earned P1 billion, surpassing the previous year’s earnings of P500 million.

If you still have not seen any of the 10 competing entries and don’t know which one to watch, here’s a summary of the films below:

A Family Of 2 (A Mother And Son Story)

A Family Of 2 (A Mother And Son Story) follows the heartwarming story of a mother and son—a good choice if you like tearjerker films. Alden Richards and Megastar Sharon Cuneta teamed up for the first time for this movie. Tonton Gutierrez, Jackie Lou Blanco, and Miles Ocampo are cast members.

K(A)mpon

Are you a fan of horror films? K(A)mpon is a horror-thriller starring Beauty Gonzales and Derek Ramsay. Its intriguing plot centers on a mysterious child who brought strange occurrences to a married couple.

Penduko

This fantasy action film is the new version of the popular comic book character Pedro Penduko, making it perfect for kids. Matteo Guidicelli takes on the role of Pedro Penduko.

Rewind

This is Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera’s reunion on the big screen after over 10 years. This DongYan’s reunion film is described as a family drama with “a touch of magic realism.”

Firefly

Here’s another kid-friendly film. According to GMA, Firefly is a fantasy road trip film about a young boy who searches for the mythical island described in his mother’s bedtime stories. It stars Alessandra de Rossi, child actor Euwenn Mikaell, Cherry Pie Picache, Yayo Aguila, Ysabel Ortega, Max Collins, and Epi Quizon, with the special participation of Dingdong Dantes.

GomBurZa

Enchong Dee, Cedrick Juan, and Dante Rivero portray the roles of the titular martyr priests executed in 1872 in GomBurza. The stellar cast includes Piolo Pascual, Epi Quizon, Jaime Fabregas, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, Khalil Ramos, and Elijah Canlas.

When I Met You In Tokyo

Veteran stars Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon also return to the big screen after seven years,. Filmed in Japan, When I Met You In Tokyo is a heartwarming romantic drama about two elderly overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who become friends and eventually fell in love.

Becky and Badette

This film will surely bring laughter to the viewers with the team up of comedians Eugene Domingo and Pokwang. The film is described as “Para sa beshies na mataas ang pangarap at mas mataas ang heels!”

Mallari

Mallari is about the Philippines’ first-ever documented serial killer. Piolo Pascual plays the role of the titular priest who killed 57 people. The cast includes JC Santos, Janella Salvador, Elisse Joson, Gloria Diaz, and Mylene Dizon. It’s a great film if you want something bloody and shocking.

Broken Hearts Trip

Broken Hearts Trip is an LGBT-themed comedy film starring Christian Bables alongside Jaclyn Jose, Teejay Marquez, Andoy Ranay, and Iyah Mina. It is dubbed the “Philippines’ first love game show in a movie.”
