Muli: An OPM Musical is a show about “what ifs” and the possible worlds we imagine could have been, had our choices from the past been different.
The nearly 2.5-hour-long musical takes us on a whirlwind journey through alternate realities and nostalgic memories of the ‘90s, dramatizing the inner turmoil that Anita (played by Kakki Teodoro) experiences in her adamant refusal to let go of her grief.

Despite this premise, it will catch you off-guard that Muli is absolutely hilarious just as it is devastating, and Kakki shines in every version of herself that she presents onstage. Janine Teñoso, who plays Anita’s daughter Kath, is equally as spectacular in her theater debut.
But the true star of the show is actually the music—all original songs penned by Nica del Rosario and Matthew Chang. At times electric and upbeat, other times slow and somber, the music is what gives life to Muli and carries us through its shifting moods to paint a picture of a millennial mother and her all-encompassing love for her daughter.
What Muli teaches us is that growing older also means learning to let go—of old dreams, regrets, heartbreak, and the person we may never be again—and understanding that the constant thought of “what if things had been different?” will never bring the relief we hope for. All we have is the present, and even when we’re not all blessed with exit wounds, we must find the strength and courage to continue living and, like Anita, to sing again.
Muli: An OPM Musical will be staged on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Sept. 11 to 27 at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Performing Arts Theater at the BGC Arts Center in Taguig City. Get your tickets from Ticketworld and mulimusical.com.
