When in Manila, be enamoured by a world-class performance of the King and I at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila!
I’m a little ashamed to admit that I have a very limited knowledge of musicals and when I heard that the King and I was coming to Manila, I immediately thought of the movie. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one guilty of that, so now is the chance for us theater noobs to get acquainted with one of the most beloved musicals of all time!

some of the many children of King Mongkut
Capturing the hearts of millions worldwide, the King and I is a classic romance based on a novel by Margaret Landon that chronicles the life of Anna Leonowens as she became governess to Siam’s King Mongkut’s many children. A memorable story, it delves into the life of the British schoolteacher living in a foreign land set against a tumultuous backdrop of cultural clashes and forbidden loves.
World class performers grace the stage infused with enthusiasm to be part of the all-Filipino cast. Theater legend Leo Tavarro Valdez is King Mongkut while the famed Monique Wilson plays the part of Anna. The King and I‘s stellar cast includes Bo Cerrudo and Sheila Valderrama as alternates for the King and Anna, Gina Respall and Apple Chui as Lady Thiang, Tanya Manalang and Marian Santiago as Tuptim, and Lorenz Martinez and Floyd Tena as Lun Tha.
