After a six-year battle over her music rights, Taylor successfully acquired the catalog of recordings, originally released through Big Machine Records, from its most recent owner, the private equity firm Shamrock Capital.
In a heartwarming letter to fans, Taylor expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude for finally reclaiming the rights to her master recordings.
“I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” she beamed.
She credited this incredible triumph to her beloved fans, thanking them for their unwavering support throughout the journey.
“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. To my fans, you know how important this has been to me — so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released four of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version,” she continued.
“I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.”
Taylor also extended her heartfelt thanks to Shamrock Capital for allowing her to purchase her music with “no strings attached and partnership,” adding, “I will be forever grateful to everyone at Shamrock Capital for being the first people to ever offer this to me. The way they’ve handled every interaction we’ve had has been honest, fair, and respectful.”
As fans eagerly anticipate the “Taylor’s Version” of Reputation, the singer revealed that she hasn’t re-recorded a quarter of it yet.
“The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it,” she admitted.
Between 2021 and 2023, Taylor re-recorded and released Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — each packed with vault tracks and beloved fan favorites.
The dispute over her music rights began in 2019 when her former record label, Big Machine Records, sold her master recordings to Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings.
We’re happy for you, Taylor!!
