Take Root: Delightfully Healthy and Delicious Snacks!

Take Root

Usually, people think that the words “healthy”, “snack foods”, and “tasty” are words that do not belong in the same sentence. But I found out over the past three years that they can. And that they actually do. Like Take Root, for example.

Take Root

Having diagnosed with auto-immune disorders, Take Root was the idea of two Filipina entrepreneurs. They wanted to take healthy snacking and lifestyle back to Manila—which they learned while residing in New York. Since such disorders also come with food sensitivities, Take Root was born.

As a male carnivore in his prime, I live and breathe meat. But every now and then I do love nibbling on something different. So I tried eating healthier snacks. A win-sin situation as not only do I get to try something new, my new snacks were also guilt-free.

And then this box of The Junk-free snack lover (PHP 1000.00) arrived on my doorstep. It had Kale Chips (PHP 220.00), Cocoroons (PHP 150.00), Rooted Bars (PHP 100.00), Bliss Balls (PHP 130.00), and a bag of Granola (PHP 150.00). The very first thing that piqued my interest was the bag of burnt honey with cranberries granola. Then I also saw the bags of Kale Chips, and thought it was something I really needed to try.

This box also makes a great gift idea this holiday season for health buffs, don’t you think?

Fact: Contrary to popular belief, a gluten-free diet is not necessarily healthier as it can lack vitamins, fibers and minerals which a healthy person needs; but for somebody with celiac disease, a gluten-free diet is essential.

I’m used to having kale in my salads or my blended drinks, but I’ve never tried kale chips before! I was skeptical at first since they are gluten free and vegan, but the flavors Vegan Cheese and Sour Kream & Chive do not sound vegan at all. How could they simulate the taste of cream and cheese in a vegan snack? But I was wrong. It is possible.

The Sour Kream & Chive really tasted like any other sour cream chip out there and had a creamy after taste. The Vegan Cheese, on the other hand, really tasted like quality cheddar. Yet there were no milk products in the ingredients used! So if you’re a vegan but want to indulge in the taste of sour cream and cheese, these dried kale chips are for you! Best of all, they won’t leave you with oily fingers!

Next are the lemon and dark cacao Cocoroons, and the aptly named Bliss Balls. The Cocoroons are really dense macaroons which are packed with dried coconuts, cashews, honey, sea salt, and either cacao or lemon zest. The Bliss Balls has dates, coconut, sugar-free peanut butter, coconut nectar, and cinnamon. If you love peanut butter, you’ll love these as every bite is a bliss-full of peanut butter balls in your mouth!

The Rooted Bars are energy bars. However, the oats, crisped rice, cassava flour, honey, and various nuts and spices in the ingredients ensure a guilt-free experience in every bite. Also? The cacao roasted almond tastes like Christmas morning.

BUT. My favorite of them all was the bag of granola. Oats, raw wild honey, almonds, cranberries, virgin coconut oil, and various spices—it is a medley of tasty flavors with each mouthful rich with the taste of caramelized honey. YUM. I liked it so much that I made sure I only took a few mouthfuls to make it last for at least two days. My only complaint is that this should come in a bigger bag! :p

After a week of trying all the snacks in this healthy box, I did feel great. My tummy is happy. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you really want to be healthy, know that eating healthy is only a part of the equation to a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet, exercising, and good sleeping habits are all necessary as well. But with Take Root, you already get 1 out of the 3 off your list.
