It’s Official: Taika Waititi Is Returning To Direct ‘Thor 4’

Marvel fans have been hoping and praying for Taika Waititi to return to the MCU for another Thor film and it seems like the Marvel gods have heard their prayers! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taika is set to direct Thor 4. This news also confirms that Thor is, indeed, getting a fourth movie, making him the first Avenger to have more than three title films.

However, by boarding Thor 4, Taika would have to put aside his much-anticipated adaptation of the Japanese manga Akira. The movie, which was set for a May 2021 release, is being put on an indefinite pause because of production scheduling. Warner Bros. has shared that it’s determined to keep Taika on board for Akira, so they’ll most likely wait until things with Thor are settled before continuing production.

Taika’s previous Marvel film, Thor: Ragnarok, is one of the most critically acclaimed films from the entire Marvel franchise. It is also a beloved fan-favorite.

The last time we saw Thor, he was headed into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy crew. We don’t know if he’s going to be playing a big role in the third Guardians film, but it’s safe to say that Thor 4 is going to be picking up wherever that leaves off.
