Shot inside a real Los Angeles hospital that treated some of the city’s earliest COVID-19 patients, the series explores grief, resilience, burnout, and the sacrifices healthcare workers make every day—particularly within the Filipino nursing community, whose contributions have often gone unrecognized in mainstream entertainment.

The response has been deeply personal for audiences. Viewers have shared messages of gratitude for seeing Filipino nurses and families authentically represented, while healthcare workers have praised the series for capturing both the emotional weight and humor that exist within hospital walls.

“It is long overdue to have more representation on the screen,” said Daly City Mayor Juslyn C. Manalo. “With Filipino nurses at the forefront of healthcare, Nurse the Dead centers the narrative around our unsung heroes and heroines. With Daly City having one of the highest concentrations of Filipinos, it gives us pride to premiere this in Northern California in community.”

The series stars Jelynn Malone in a leading role as Noa Reyes, a nurse supervisor with a “third eye” who can see and communicate with ghosts haunting her hospital ward, alongside Anthony Jennings, one of the Philippines’ fastest-rising leading men following the worldwide success of Hello, Love, Again, the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.

The cast also includes Gigette Reyes (Freakier Friday) as Tess “Mami Tess” Reyes, Noa’s fiercely protective mother and emotional anchor of the family; Johari Johnson (9-1-1: Lone Star, Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living); Princess Punzalan (Mula sa Puso); Ruby Rodriguez (Eat Bulaga!, Hello, Love, Again); Pablo Azar (Marido en Alquiler); and multi-platinum recording artist and actor Tootsie Guevara.
