Sometimes, the perfect crawl stop feels less like content… and more like comfort.
A Quick Crawl Stop That Turned Into a Merienda Break
After visiting the newly reopened Museo Dabawenyo, my friend Kaydee and I made our way to Rekado to add another sticker to our Kape at Tsokolate Crawl 2025 card. It had just rained, and the sky still hung low. Honestly, it felt like the kind of weather that demanded a warm drink, soft lighting, and something sweet.
Rekado has long been one of Davao’s go-to spots for elevated Filipino comfort food, whether for birthdays, balikbayan lunches, or casual celebrations. That afternoon, it delivered exactly what it always has: consistency, comfort, and a kind of quiet pride in Filipino flavors.
Tsokolate Options (and What We Picked)
Rekado’s Tsokolate Crawl menu kept it short and sweet:
-
Hot Tsokolate
-
Tsokolate Fondue
-
Durian and Langka Turon
Kaydee and I both went with the hot chocolate, because what else would pair better with a grey afternoon? It came rich and velvety; not too sweet, not too heavy. Just enough to cut through the air and wrap your palate in warmth.

We also ordered two extras off their menu: the Sylvana and the Suman Con Leche, which ended up stealing the show.
The Standout: Suman Con Leche and Hot Tsokolate

You know that feeling when two separate things come together and suddenly make perfect sense? That was this pairing. The Suman was soft and fragrant, soaked in a thick leche sauce that coated the mouth just right. When chased by a sip of tsokolate, the duo hit that nostalgic, cozy, after-school-merienda kind of note. It reminded me why these food crawls work: not because they’re trendy, but because they pull something personal out of you.
A Quiet Highlight of the Crawl
Rekado may not have had the most elaborate crawl lineup, but what it served was more than enough. That rainy afternoon reminded me that not every stop has to be groundbreaking. Sometimes it just has to feel like home.
The Kape at Tsokolate Crawl continues to surprise me. One day you’re sipping bean-to-bar blends; the next, you’re sitting in Rekado, dipping sylvana crumbs into hot tsokolate while the sky stays grey and quiet. It’s not just a crawl, it’s a series of slow, small joys. This one happened to taste like suman and feel calm.
