Private cars will no longer be allowed on the yellow lane (bus lane) along EDSA starting on Monday, January 18. Violators will be fined PhP 500.
According to a news post from Inquirer.net, Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, head of the Edsa Technical Working Group (TWG), and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that they will begin pursuit of violators on the southbound portion of EDSA between Shaw Blvd. in Mandaluyong City and Guadalupe in Makati City. They chose this location because they said it is the “most problematic” area in EDSA.
Soon, they intend to implement it from both ends of EDSA.
Private vehicles can only use the yellow lane if they are turning right.
The aim for this is lessen traffic and to make buses move faster as private cars keep out of the yellow lane.

Oh good grief here we go again. Are buses restricted only to yellow lanes? Can they no longer use underpasses? All these poorly thought out, ill conceived and badly implemented plans are no panacea for the underlying truths. Not enough roads, poor urban planning, miserable standards of upkeep, dreadful driving. Recommended that everybody invests in a dashcam soon.

No. It is going to be half baked as usual. They won’t apprehend buses that get out of the yellow lanes. If private vehicles can’t be in the yellow lanes then buses should remain in them at all times. They also shouldn’t go over flyovers and cross from the yellow lanes on the extreme right onto the flyover. Also, the cops are going to start using the fictitious ‘swerving’ violation again to collect bribes when you try to make your turn in tim because otherwise you would be violating this regulation. Damned if you do, dammed if you don’t. If properly implemented, the regular public transport commuter, as ever, will get the short end because their travel time will take even longer.
