I don’t know about you, but I’m always in the mood for barbecue. It’s always exciting how something so simple, when done right, can knock your socks off. And Penong’s in Cebu does it just right. The best part is, they don’t only have mouth-watering barbecued meats, they have other standout Filipino dishes, too!
Their pork barBESTcue (P27) is well–so aptly named. This meat on a stick is insanely good.
Their signature dish, the Penong’s express (P180) has to be my favorite. I wiped that plate clean. It’s the perfect balance of sweet, spicy and savory, and a texture of soft and crunchy (that chicharon, though).
Not to be missed is their fried isol (P95), crispy kangkong (P86) and tuna panga (P86). They also have a killer mangga’t bagoong (P65). The secret? Only the best bagoong you and I will ever have.
Their kinilaw (P160) is a mix of fresh Malasugue (marlin), cucumbers, mango, onions, chillies and vinegar. Slightly different from the kinilaw I’m used to, but definitely a refreshing addition to my meal.
Penong’s is open for lunch and dinner, and delivers too! Their spacious, cozy air-conditioned and al fresco dining rooms make a great setting for your barbecue binging. Have I mentioned they serve unlimited rice?
